Château la Croix de Roche

On its clay and sandy ground,haloed by sky and sun, the fine-looking mansion “La Croix de Roche”, topped by its small slate-covered bell tower, lazily overlooks the banks of the river Isle.

Surrounded by its twenty hectare vineyard, this old farm was bought by Isabelle and François Maurin more than a quarter of a century ago. As if by magic, surely by love and hard work, it has been turned into a place full of charm which offers its easy way of life to the traveller interested in wine, wine-making and vineyards, looking for peace and authenticity.

Built in the Fronsac area on the border of the Saint Emilion area, managed by François Maurin and his oldest son Raphael, Chateau Croix de Roche gives its wine an exceptional, nearly unique aromatic range which is due both to the creativity of the father and to the passion of his son _ a wide variety of colours and tastes that can be seen or tasted.

Their wine, fruity and elegant, noble and true, is the product of the blending of different varieties perfectly adapted to the nature of the soil ( mostly merlot, cabernet franc , cabernet sauvignon, malbec, petit verdot or carmenère according to the vintage ) . Whether it is white, red or rosé, still or sparkling, it is appreciated by all and all can buy it. Every year, a hundred thousand bottles are sold in France and throughout the world.

But wine is not the only thing that benefits from their care. The vineyard itself is cuddled, loved, taken care of and worked just as it used to be in the old times according to tradition as well as to the new specifications of organic agriculture ( certified by Ecocert ). The fine mansion is envelopped by the green or golden hues of the mantle of the the vineyards, following the season. Its four warm, colourful, welcoming “ chambres d’hotes “ are lovingly managed by the lady of the house
